Managing Director
Nynas Australia

Beyond their primary role of cooling and insulating electrical equipment, high performance transformer oil meeting the latest international IEC60296:2012 and Australian AS60296:2017 standards plays a key role in extending the life of your assets. Not every oil is the same and an educated overview of their chemical, physical and electrical properties allows to understand essential nuances, oxidation stability performance and the reasons for different types of oil such as uninhibited, inhibited and passivated.

Regular oil sampling and analysis in line with recommended monitoring and maintenance standards will provide through dissolved gas analysis (DGA) the tools to a closer understanding of what is happening inside a transformer from a thermal and electrical viewpoint, making the oil a unique messenger about the health of electrical assets.

This presentation provides both a refresher of the basics of transformer oil as well as an insight to more advanced concepts and understanding.

Philippe Reboul completed his MEng in general engineering from Ecole Centrale de Lyon, France and his MSc (Honours) in Material and Surface Science at Lyon University.
